  • Facilitate Safe Space programs for the campus community.
  • Work closely with Pride Alliance to provide events, workshops and trainings to educate the campus community on LGBT issues.

How do I join the Safe Zone Committee?

Anyone who is interested and willing to be can join: faculty, students, administration and support staff, and community members. If you would like to become a Safe Zone Committee member, your first step will be to attend a Safe Space training session. If you have already attended a Safe Space Training contact the chair.

What is the Safe Space training?

The Safe Space Program provides a welcoming environment for lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender persons by establishing an identifiable network of supportive persons who can provide support, information and a safe place for LGBT persons within our campus community. Those who have committed to being Safe Spaces indicate that bigotry and discrimination, specifically regarding LGBT persons, are not tolerated. What does it mean if I see a Safe Space symbol displayed?

The Safe Space symbol provides a message to members of the GLBT community (including students, faculty, and staff) that the person displaying the symbol is a person who has decided to be an active and visible ally, can be trusted to maintain confidentiality, and will respond to the individual with understanding, support, and empathy. If a GLBT individual wants help, advice, or just someone with whom they can talk, they can expect to be met with openness and respect in areas displaying the Safe Space symbol.
