Regardless of credit hours, all students in their first two years post high-school that are not living with parents/guardians within 50 miles, are required to live on campus to enhance their university experience. Please note that the academic license is for the full academic year.
Students are notified before the start of the semester via e-mail. For the Fall 2017 semester, Residence Halls open on August 19th at 9:00 a.m. More information TBA.

All residents must select a meal plan with limited exceptions based on class level and building. See http://fsa.fredonia.edu for more details. Seniors, residents of University Village Townhouses, Disney and Eisenhower kitchen suites are not required to maintain a meal plan; however, they may choose any plan.
Intervisitation is the practice of allowing a resident to have a visitor within his/her immediate living area at any time of the day or night, any day of the week. Intervisitation is a PRIVILEGE and should not be abused. The privilege is not intended to be used in such a manner as to infringe upon the rights of your roommate or other residents within the hall, provide an unauthorized residence for a visitor, or bring about a situation which is of concern to the residence hall staff. Overnight visitors typically should not stay more than two of the three consecutive nights, or multiple weekends. Be considerate of your roommate and your fellow residents. There is a limit of 3 guests/roommate.
Non-residents (visitors) must register at the main desk in each hall beginning at 9:00 PM until 7:00 AM in all halls except Gregory, University Commons and University Village. The host is responsible for the conduct of the visitor or guest and must escort them while in the building regardless of time.
All of the buildings are equipped with electronic door access at all entrance areas. Only residents of the building can use their FREDcard to gain access to the building. Visitors must use the phone located outside each building to call the person they wish to visit to have them come down, open the door for them and escort them while in the building. Guests must be escorted at all times when not in the host's room.
All of the residence halls (except Gregory, University Commons, University Village) employ Night Desk Attendants. They are available to sign guests in and out of each building while on duty. All guests must show proper ID to sign into a residence hall and must be seventeen or older. Each residence hall lobby has a CCTV camera that links directly to University Police.
Each residence hall has one live-in Residence Director (the Gregory Hall RD lives in University Commons) and 3-5 Resident Assistants. University Village has one live-in Townhouse Coordinator. Maintenance/cleaning staff and undergraduate student employees also assist in the operation of the building throughout the day.
Each resident is issued a key for their room and mailbox (if applicable) for their own personal use. Loss of either key should be reported as soon as possible by filling out the appropriate form below:
After completing the form, follow the payment link on the confirmation page and make the payment. The fee is $20 per key. Please note that the lost key price will go up to $30 per lost key.
Key Policy: Once you fill out the lost key form, you are agreeing to pay $20 for each lost key. We will not order you a new key until the $20 payment is received. If you haven’t made a payment within one week of submitting the lost key form, your request will be cancelled and a key will not be ordered for you.
Refund Policy: Once your key has been ordered from the lock shop, we are unable to process any refunds. Please note, each student is allowed only one key per room. All duplicates should be handed in to your Residence Director immediately.
If you lose your FredCard, you will need to go to the FSA Office, 1st floor of Gregory Hall. The first replacement is free; all other replacements are $20.
Quiet hours are in effect in all residence halls from 10:00 PM - 7:00 AM, Sunday night through Thursday, and 12:00 AM -7:00 AM on Friday and Saturday evenings. These hours are set up for the benefit of all students and we ask that you respect the rights of others by observing these hours.
Fish are the only acceptable pets. Fish tanks up to 10 gallons are permitted.
Every student at Fredonia, including freshmen, may have a car on campus. However, the car must be registered upon arrival and you must abide by the parking policies established by the University. Students who do not bring cars to campus have the option of using the on campus shuttle service which provides transportation to key areas of the village and surrounding areas.
No one under the age of may consume or possess alcoholic beverages. Hosts are responsible for all of their guests, including those who are under 21 years of age. Students who are over 21 may not consume alcohol in the presence of anyone under 21 other than their roommate. Individuals who are under the age of 21 may not be present where alcohol is being served or consumed other than as set forth by the aforementioned regulation. Residence Life prohibits the use or possession of alcohol paraphernalia including but not limited to beer pong tables, funnel apparatus, alcohol container displays, collections, etc. Refer to the Student Rights and Responsibilities section of the Student Handbook for the complete Alcohol and Drug Policy.
Fredonia's residence halls are smoke free. As of January 1, 2014, Fredonia is a tobacco free campus. You can read more about the policy here. The use of any tobacco product will be prohibited; it will be the responsibility of all members of the University Community to comply with the tobacco free policy.
Our campus is composed of a variety of residence hall options:
- Freshmen corridor halls: Alumni (female) and Nixon (co-edu), Chautauqua (male)
- Freshmen suite halls: Kasling (female) and Grissom (co-ed)
- New student (freshman & transfer) co-educational hall: Hemingway (suite)
- Upperclass co-educational halls: Disney (suite), Eisenhower (suite), Igoe (suite), McGinnies (corridor), Schulz (suite).
- Gregory Hall, University Commons, and University Village are independent-living areas. These buildings are reserved for upperclass students.
- Disney and Eisenhower also have several kitchen suites. These are three bedroom suites with a full kitchen facility and are available to upperclass students.
- Corridor style rooms are 12'10" by 12'9", the window is 6'9" by 5'4" high.
- Suite style rooms are approximately 10'10" by 12'4", the window is 4' wide by 7'2" high.
- University Commons doubles are 12'10" by 12', the window is 5.5' wide by 4'7" high.
- University Commons singles are 12'11" by 10', the window is 5.5' by 4'7" high.
- University Village single rooms are 100 square feet, we do not have the exact dimensions at this time.
Loft beds are not permitted due to fire safety regulations. All equipment made of 2"x4" or other lumber materials should not be brought to campus. Bed risers are not necessary, all beds (except in University Commons & University Village) raise up to 28" or can be bunked. Use the maintenance request form to request bunking.
Standard rooms in corridor/suite style buildings have a mattress that is 33 1/2" x 80" In Gregory Hall, the mattresses are 36" x 80" University Village mattresses are 54" x 80" Please use these measurements when choosing your sheets.
Yes, decorations on the walls make your room look more like home, but we ask for your cooperation in following the building procedures when decorating your room. Failure to adhere to these procedures may result in damage charges.
- All pictures, bulletin boards, posters, shelves and other decorations must be hung in wall slots or on the borders provided.
- All items should be 2 feet from the ceiling, 10 feet from an exit path, and wall decorations cannot exceed 20% of total wall space.
- Removable sticky tack may be used provided it does not remove the paint.
- Do not place decals or adhesive plaques on doors, walls, woodwork, or vinyl.
- Multi-arm lamps with plastic shades are not allowed in the residence halls.
- NOT PERMITTED: Extension chords, candles, incense, or cooking devices with an exposed heating element.
- Power Strips: Due to the fire risk associated with inexpensive extension chords, please use power strips with a fuse or breaker that trips if overloaded, and be sure it is UL listed.
- Personal furniture, curtains, draperies, hangings and other decorative materials suspended from walls or ceilings should be flame resistant in accordance with NYS Fire Code §F805.2 and NFPA 701 or be noncombustible. Tags must remain on the items.

If you bring a refrigerator, it cannot exceed a maximum size of 4 cubic feet and must be UL approved, hermetically sealed, and have a drawing power of less than 4/10 amp when running.

Communication between prospective roommates regarding accessories can be valuable for exploring preference and interests.
- All electrical appliances, such as lamps, alarm clocks, radios, televisions must be UL approved.

- Coffee pots and irons with automatic shut-off
- Small microwaves (use your best judgment)
- NOT PERMITTED: Multi-arm lamps with plastic shades or halogen lamps of any kind. No heating or cooking equipment (other than small microwave) are to be used in student rooms for reasons of safety, health and sanitation. Please do not bring items with exposed heating elements (ex. electric grills, toasters, or toaster ovens). Appliances not approved for use in student rooms will be removed as well as items left in the bathrooms. Wireless routers are not permitted.
For the Fall 2017 semester, when space permits, we have single rooms available to all students regardless of class standing. Please indicate your preference on your housing application. The Office of Residence Life reserves the right to cancel single rooms when necessary.
When there is a high demand for on-campus living, Residence Life is dedicated to providing alternative living spaces rather than triples. If necessary, residence hall suite room or lounges can be converted for additional living space.
Secure wireless access is available throughout campus as well as high speed Ethernet connection for each residence in the residence hall rooms. The ResNet Office is available to assist students in setting up their connection when they arrive on campus.
Wireless routers are not permitted in the residence hall rooms, but secure wireless access is available in all residence halls, academic buildings, Williams Center, Starbucks, and the library.
Beginning the Fall of 2014 local telephone service will only be available in the lobby of each residence hall. Fredonia will no longer provide local land-line service to individual bedrooms.
Computers and printers are also available to students at various campus locations. You can go to Reed Library, the ITS Service Center, and other various places on campus. There is a fax machine located in FSA.
All rooms in the residence halls are wired for digital cable TV, provided as part of the room rate. You are responsible for bringing your own television and coaxial cable. The cable service includes the major networks in addition to music, sports, movie, news and educational channels for your enjoyment. In order to view these channels, the television must have a digital cable TV tuner capable of receiving Clear QAM signals and perform a complete channel scan using the television's setup menu. Cable and audio accessories can be purchased in the University Bookstore.
Laundry rooms are provided in the basement of the suite style buildings, on the first floor of the corridor buildings, on each floor of Gregory Hall and University Commons, and in each unit of University Village Townhouses. These rooms are open and available 24 hours a day. Laundry facilities are included in the room rate and require no currency to operate. Availability of the machines can be found here. These facilities are to be used by resident students only.
There is daily US Postal mail service delivery provided to all halls. Roommates will be assigned a locked mailbox in the main lobby of their residence hall. Carry your mailbox key with you as mail cannot be handed out over the counter as per Federal Post Office regulations. Packages, special delivery, certified, insured, registered and postage due mail will be held in the residence hall office. Residents in receipt of these items will be notified and may pick up their mail during posted office hours. Students need to produce identification and must sign for these items in person.
PLEASE NOTE: Guaranteed express or other timed early delivery packages are independent of Fredonia and the front desks are not open 24 hours.

Bicycles should be stored in bike racks near the residence halls. Bicycles may not be chained to railings, left in lounges, stairwells, public areas, loading docks, student rooms, or stored anywhere that would hamper the exit of residents during an emergency. Bicycles in violation of these codes may be removed from the premises for safety reasons.
Luggage rooms are minimally available in each residence hall for limited storage during the academic year only. Storage is not available during the summer months. Your name, university address and home address should be clearly affixed on all sides of the items you place in storage. Cardboard boxes cannot be stored. The University cannot assume any responsibility for any loss or damage to items left in storage. All items left in storage after the spring semester will be disposed of during the summer months.
If you have an illness, the Health Center in Lograsso Hall is open from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM Monday through Friday, and 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Saturday. If you are in need of emergency medical care you should contact a Resident Assistant within your building or call University Police to request an ambulance. Brooks Memorial Hospital is located locally in Dunkirk.
- The ResNet Office offers a variety of computer related services available only to residence hall students. For a listing of services, please go here.
- The Wellness Center is located in the Schulz Hall basement area and is a total fitness center with up-to-date equipment such as an elliptical machine, treadmills, stationary bicycles, a full nautilus circuit and free weight area.
- The Aerobics Center is located in the Hemingway Hall basement area and provides a wide range of classes from body sculpting to high-energy aerobics to Zumba. It offers many classes per week to fit your busy schedule and there are stationary bicycles, treadmills and free weights for additional cardiovascular benefits.
- The Craft Room is located in Disney Hall and is available to residents. Flyers and schedules are posted every month announcing open hours and classes available throughout each week.
Getting involved in programs is quite easy while living in the residence halls. RA's, Residence Hall Association (RHA), and Hall Council coordinate educational programs and social activities. Assuming a leadership role in the planning and implementation of programs is a challenge that provides hard working students with experience for their professional resumes. The best way to learn about programs and activities is to attend the weekly meetings of your Hall Council and by talking to your RA.
Hall Council is the student government within each residence hall. Hall Council programming, activities and equipment is made possible through residence hall dues. The budget for each building is determined by the number of residents who pay $20 hall dues each year. The Hall Council then decides how to spend their funds. Input from all residents helps in this decision making process. Participation in Hall Council is very important. Activities planned by the Hall Council include hall dinners, theme parties, guest speakers, health awareness programs, study breaks, and skill-building workshops. This organization represents only one of the many ways to get involved in campus living.
