Keynote Speaker for the 2018 Men of Color Summit is Jahmad Canley

The Men of Color summit will educate, empower and motivate our students to strive for excellence in education. Students, faculty and staff will engage in the needs and issues that specifically men of color face; and how those issues intersect with their academic and professional careers. Participants will have the opportunity to learn from and engage with professional leaders, who have navigated through these very issues, while also highlighting their success.

The summit is a unique networking opportunity for participants to learn from each other by participating in workshops, networking with professional men of color, who are leaders in their respective fields, and learning from each other. The ultimate goal for this summit is to educate, empower and motivate our students to strive for excellence in education. Additionally, it will be an opportunity for student affairs professionals, faculty and staff, who work with these men of color, to learn more about the needs of their students and strategies to best serve them.

  1. Participants will address systemic, social structures that inhibit men of color from achieving high success in their educational careers.

  2. Participants will have the opportunity to learn from and engage with professional leaders, who have navigated through these very issues, while also highlighting their success.

  3. Provide students with a greater sense of self and helping them to contextualize their identity socially, academically, historically and politically.

  4. Provide educators with the tools and resources necessary to nurture an inclusive environment for men of color.

There will be workshops, the Young Professionals Panel, a keynote speaker and more. Professional attire is encouraged. Please bring a resume. This event is open to students, faculty and staff of all genders. We can’t wait to see you there!
